The SC-500 is a equipment developed to perform Sample Crush Tests like CCT,
The SC-500 can be controlled in a very simple way through a control panel with a
total of 6 buttons and a LCD Display. From this panel it is possible to carry out tests,
besides controlling all the functions and implemented configurations, what allows a total
autonomy of the equipment. It is also equipped with a RS-232 type communication port to
allow connect it to a computer. Through this port and the appropriate program it is possible
to transfer data and a total control of the equipment.




It is necessary to highlight the following characteristics of the equipment:

  • two displacement speeds , configurable from 1 to 150 mm/min that allow for example to
    establish a speed for the approach or preload and another for the test.
  • Several ways of reading the Force and Extension, with a resolution of 0.004% of the full
    scale of force, and 0.2 mm in elongation.
  • Total control of the test parameters, as the preload value, the approach speed, the
    automatic return, the break detection or the units selection.
  • Diverse security protection systems, those that is necessary to highlight are the
    displacement limit switches, the electronic protection against overloads or the emergency

Test description

The prepared sample (for standard: 160 x 12,7 mm strips) is put in the upper opening. This strip is heated up to 175 °C between two corrugated discs, whereby the flute is formed and ejected from the instrument on the lower opening.
Using the included sample holder the self adhesive tape is applied to complete the sample preparation.

One of the rolls is operated by a motor-gear and rotates to a speed of 4.5 rpm ± 1 rpm and the other roller which is geared, makes a pressure on the diving of 100 N ± 10 N

Tests are made by means of a hydraulic pressure (glycerine hydraulic liquid) which is transmitted to the sample by means of a natural rubber membrane. The maximum pressure reached in the breaking moment of the sample is shown in the electronic display situated at the front of the instruments.


After placing the sample in its test position, press the central test position. The metacrylate protection cover will go down and the pneumatic plunger will close the sample support. The hydraulic pressure device will automatically act on the sample. When the sample breaks, the hydraulic cylinder will automatically stop and return to it's initial start position. The protection cover and the sample support will open automatically leaving the equipment ready for the next test.

The test consists of puncturing a board sample with a triangular pyramid-shaped striking head, which is fixed to a pendulum. The required energy for the striking head to cross the sample completely is measured. This means, to do the initial puncture, tear and open the board.
